Not sure if this will work but you can try adding Half-Life 2's executable (hl2.exe) to the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) I also get the crash. Tried updating, reinstalling, video changes and the lot. It's on the "Follow Freeman" mission, after shutting down three generators.
